The structured option. A flat front, a zip fly with a hook-and-bar, belt loops and four pockets, in a cotton canvas that has been washed to take the board-stiffness out. The inseam is 23 cm, which finishes about three fingers above the knee on an average height.
Canvas is not a cool cloth in the way linen is; it is the better choice for a walk and the worse one for sitting still in 35 °C. Chalk marks easily and needs a 40 °C wash.
